TOS KURIM - OS: successful supplier of milling machines and machining centres
Milling machine and machining centre manufacturer TOS KURIM - OS, a.s., enabling the machining of heavy, size- and shape-complex pieces from as many as 5 sides, has recently preformed several interesting deliveries of its machines.
General repair increased productivity
In February 2009, a reconstructed FREZ 20 x 60A portal machining centre was passed on to operation. This manually controlled machine
was operated at the roughening division of ZDAS, Zdar nad Sazavou since 1984. The fundamental demand for its general repair and modernization was to increase the utility value by utilizing the existing carrying parts including the foundation and maintaining the developed area. The reconstruction concerned replacing the entire electrical wiring system, installing an NC drive including control system and replacing the slideway with linear roller bearings on two axes. The new slide and ram are used for the automatic replacement of 60 kW heads produced at TOS KURIM -OS. The modernized machine was put into operation at the beginning of 2009 and it was confirmed that the power and accuracy parameters are comparable to the new machines of this category.
The reconstruction enabled the machine to reach the full technological level of new, currently manufactured portal centres. Technological machining options expanded, compared to the original design concept. No less important were the changes in design, enabling high-speed machining with the use of current progressive cutting tools.
The original machine design concept enabled only plane and right angle milling. Rostislav Dvorak, head of repairs and property at ZDAS, Zdar nad Sazavou said, "The reconstructed machine is more versatile, in terms of machining options, and enables the application of many other technological operations, for example, shape machining, hole reaming, thread cutting etc. You can say that the new concept of the machine completely changes the
range machined parts. The technical changes made and expanded technological options have a direct impact on the extended offer of technological machining at this workplace."
In October 2009, the same customer received an FRF machining centre with moving portal and 3000 x 6000 mm table, 2050 mm clearness between the table and cross-rail and 3550 mm clearness between columns. The machine is equipped with four heads produced by TOS KURIM and the Simens Sinumerik 840 D control system. The main drive power reaches 37 kW. The customer uses the machine predominantly for machining large pieces for the energy industry.

TO THE CUSTOMER
At the beginning of the year, an FRUA 450 machining centre was also delivered to this firm. Trial operation is currently underway on this 5-axis machining centre. The FRUA 450 machining centre is the most powerful portal centre produced in the Czech Republic and is specified for very precise machining of heavy, size-and shape-demanding pieces from as many as 5 sides, using classic technology and high-speed machining.
The customer primarily appreciates the following assets, regarding FRUA 450 machining centres:
• Complete tailor made delivery at the contractor's full expense (including surrounding technology, machine foundations and building project)
• Fully automatic tool replacement executed by robot; tools are stored in shelf magazine with 180 pockets
• Machine equipped with a wide variety of technological accessories, mainly consisting of:
- Modern prepared and adjusting tool workstations containing a vertical adjusting device for BMD 566v CCD tools (monitor and integrated PC with automatic data transfer included)

DELIVERIES TO RUSSIA AND BELARUS
Successful deliveries "were registered with customers from Russia and Belarus, in cooperation with ALTA. At the end of last year, a milling centre with moving column and replaceable FF line heads were delivered to the "Norilskij obespecivajuscij komplex" engineering plant. Assembly and adjustment work, machine operator training, conforming to EU directives, lasted more than a month.
"The TOS KURIM milling centre -that is one of the best machines made in Europe," said Maxim Rykov, head of milling operations. "It just might be the best machine of its kind in the Krasnojarsk region. The machine is equipped with a Siemens control system. The machine delivery includes three replaceable heads, automatic tool replacement including a tool magazine that holds 40 tools. This kind of equipment enables the execution of a wide range of operations on one fixed piece. Pieces weighing up to 15 tons can be machined on the milling centre with a 5000 x 1250 mm table. Various operations can be executed on the machine: milling, drilling, roughening, thread cutting. We can save more time, increase quality and expand our assortment of products."
In February 2010, the assembly and adjusting of two FUQ 150-VR/8 DUO technological complexes was finished at BELAZ, Zodino in Belarus. The two technological complexes, consisting of a total of four FUQ 150-VR/8 machines, will be used for machining extensive segments for BELAZ-7560 trucks with a maximum load of 320 tons.

The newest addition in the TOS KURIM - OS company portfolio is the prototype machine from the FUB line. It concerns a machining centre with moving column, specified for chip machining. .It has wide technological application for milling, drilling, roughing, reaming and threading operations. Both roughening and finishing operations can be executed at optimum machine diameters combined with replaceable spindle heads. Machine hydrostatics are found on axis X. High performance and spindle torque, for spindle heads with mechanical spindle drive, come handy for roughening operations.
